SUSTAINABLE AGRICULTURE FARM EQUIPMENT

$975 MISTY: Black and White pony mare, 13.1H, rides and drives.  She is beginner quiet in a closed environment for riding english or western but too much spunk for a beginner out in the open.  She drives only for the intermediate or advanced driver, too much spunk in the carriage after being driven as a cart pony by the Amish - when you are transportation you have to move out to get to town.  Misty can fly over a 5' horse panel without batting an eyelash.  Has potential as a jumping show pony:)>  Our 10 yr old daughter says her gaits are super smooth and comfortable; she rides her all over our 170 acre farm bareback or under saddle and is determined to torture, uh I mean desensitize her to all things :)>  Bless the hearts of children, all of the horses on our farm are better for their interaction with the children b/c the children have no idea what might spook a horse and what might not, so they just do with them whatever they want and it is amazing what really does NOT bother a horse when administered by a little 1/2 pint - LOL!

She does not have a roman nose but the angle of this photo makes it look like she does.

$8,750 - 2006 Registered Spanish Norman mare, Sierra's Magico SFX #CXIX 0601.  Her 1/2 Andalusian Registration is pending for the new buyer (we did not complete it b/c we do not believe in micro chipping our horses due to the current cancer research on the micro chips).  Sierra's sire is the champion Andalusian stallion Magico of Rancho Del Lago in McDade, TX; her dam was our own black Percheron mare, Sandy.  Both sire and dam were around 16-16.1H and Sierra should finish out somewhere close to that.  She is just starting to fill out and looks really good with more growth to come.  Sierra was started under saddle last October for basic riding and trails.  She is an intelligent, easy mare that naturally loves to jump and is extremely athletic.  She was exposed to a Registered Haflinger stallion in hopes of a May 2010 foal.  e-mail for photos.

Sierra has always loved the children.  I remember the day we picked her up from her undersaddle training as a coming 3 yr old.  She called to the girls and then lowered her head around them and it looked like she was hugging them.  She does this to me as well.  This mare has had the best temperament since the day she was born.  Both her sire and her dam were exceedingly special in this way as well.

This photo is from the Spring of 2009 - you can see she was filling out nicely as a coming 3 yr old.  She fills up your leg for sure.

$650, Sargent - the 2005 Mule, ~ 14.2H:

Sargent was purchased from a private estate sale a few months ago along with a Belgian gelding.  The owner did drive the gelding but we don't know if he drove Sargent or not.  The hauler that brought him to us said he sat on him and rode him around in a halter, and then Ben caught him up and sat our 10 yr old daughter on him in the pen.  You can mess with his ears and hooves.  He does not indicate he has anything but sweetness in him.  He is a little wary having been left in the herd for an extended time after the death of his owner.  Ben bought him with remembered dreams of coon hunting on a mule as a kid....but reality has set in that he is now a farmer and no time for training a riding mule.  Sargent had a coggins, VEWT and a WNV vaccine when they brought him to us.  I have some short video clips of him moving.  If you e-mail us, I can send them over.  He is actually quite fluid and might make a dressage mule for the mule enthusiast.

$1,500 - Registered Belgian Mare, Sandy, ~17H:

Sandy is a beautiful Belgian Mare.  Kid and Husband safe for riding.  She does drive double and mulitples but is a pill to hitch and needs to be driven on the outside or she messes with the other horses that are hitched with her.  Sandy was part of a childs autistic riding program and so our 10 yr old sometimes rides her under supervision in the pen - b/c she is SOOOO big.  I hesitate to turn her loose on the farm with such a large mount.  However, Ben has trail ridden her around the farm and he said she is wonderful.

March 2010 we will be off to OH to custom buy work horses and horse drawn equipment on our one time per year trip to the NE to Amish country.  All animals must be pre-paid prior to us leaving on our trip, and must be pickup up within 7 days of our return.  They are sold "as is" from the day we purchase them.  We strive to choose quiet, safe driving horses, draft of any kind and often purchase ponies or mini's as well.  Most often we purchase Percherons and Haflingers but there are usually Belgians available also.  Sometimes we see a Shire, Clydesdale or Fjord but not very often.  Our trip to the NE is usually 9 days to 3 weeks, we go in the Spring or Fall.  We shop hard for good horses and do our best to only purchase what we would want for ourselves:  a quiet driving horse that will be safe on our farm for living in a herd and handling crowds of people, that has no previous health issues and is sound.  We do ask if they can be ridden  and strive for a horse that has experience single and double, but it is not a requirement for us.  If it is a requirement for you, then let us know.  Our normal private buying fee is $2,500 - $3,500 per horse, ponies and mini's is a lower price that depends on some other factors, it includes the hauling fee from OH to our farm and any board we might pay in OH for them to stay overnight between the purchase time and the time we leave.  We do not cover vet costs for vaccines /worming or coggins other than what is provided to us at the time of sale.  If you want to ensure specific vet care, often we can arrange it from the local vet but you must tell us in advance what you desire and pay for the full cost or you can just have it done when you get home with your horse.  We do not cover shipping and handling fees for equipment unless they fit on the trailer or truck with the horses (such as harness).  Most times a separate truck will have to be employed for an equipment load, you will have to pay for the equipment and your portionate part of the hauling fee as determined by the weight most times.  Talk to Ben privately for equipment and hauling fees on equipment.  He can find you most anything you like in Amishland.
